The Key Reason Why Touring Caravans Insurance Needs To Be Taken Seriously

Numerous caravanners think of their caravan almost as an extension of their family and some have even been known to refer to it as ‘a friend'!  Yet a caravan is also an important financial asset and that's why touring caravan insurance is a subject worthy of serious attention.

Getting around

One of the major attractions of a touring caravan is that it is mobile and means you need not be tied to a single location for your holiday. It is perfectly possible to move on every night or so and pander to that long-held secret desire of yours to be something of a wanderer!

With mobility comes problems and this is something that you have to be aware of That price is that the very mobility of your caravan may well mean that it is vulnerable to road traffic accidents and other mishaps that may apply less to other forms of caravan.

If you think about the cost of your caravan and the cost of its contents (including fixtures and fittings etc) then the chances are you will be looking at quite a significant sum of money.

Touring caravans insurance provides you with a degree of financial protection in the event that the worst happens.

The cover

A standard policy will offer cover for things that may happen to the caravan itself (e.g. this might for example be in the event of an accident on the road and applies to fittings and the contents in the caravan

That typically means that you may have protection against things such as storms, floods, fire and burglary etc.

What you get for the money of course depends on the cover you take out It is, for this reason, highly advisable to make the effort to read any quotations and associated documentation, very carefully.

For example:

•    some but not all policies will offer to replace your contents on a new-for-old basis;

•    some policies may possess restrictions on the minimum ages and experience levels of towing drivers;

•    some policies may offer opportunities for discounts in the event you take additional security precautions, such as the fitting of alarms (note that some policies might require that you use hitchlocks and wheel clamps as mandatory);

•    some types of caravan (such as Hobby caravans) may be hard to insure due to their high cost fittings and you could possibly have to look for an insurance provider that will cover that specific type of caravan;

• bear in mind that the policy may not provide protection for any fittings that are external satellite dishes) and those that do may require that certain of these items are stored away if you are going to be away from caravan - awnings are a good example.

The documents pertaining to touring caravans insurance are typically written in easily understood English and they should clearly highlight any exclusions and special terms and conditions.

The protection provided by touring caravan insurance may well be related to how well the policy fits your individual circumstances. That's why reading the details carefully is a good idea!
